APA MVP Program

Each session the Southern Michigan APA recognizes the MVP's in both 8-ball and 9-ball and they are invited to play in a tournament.  The MVP calculation is based on the percentage of points you win versus the number of points you could win total when you play a match, know as the "Points Available" or "PA" Calculation.

Players that played a minimum of 6 matches within the regular session (4 matches during the summer session) will be eligible for the MVP calculation. Playoff matches are not considered “regular” session matches. Tiers will be divided based on skill levels with 4 tiers in 8-Ball and 3 tiers in 9-Ball. In 8-Ball, there are 4 tiers: SL 2-3, SL 4, SL 5 & SL 6-7.  In 9-Ball, there are 3 tiers: SL 1-3, SL 4-5 & SL 6-9. The top players from each skill level tier league wide will be invited to participate in a tournament at the end of the session.

Tournament Details:

  • Each tier is a double elimination bracket with a minimum of 8 players.
  • 5 players from each tier will qualify for the Michigan Singles Regional tournament.
  • $20.00 entry fee
  • $1000.00 added per tier
  • $650 of added monies will pay for players’ Regional Singles entry free
  • $20.00 entry fee plus $350 of the added money is paid out same day.
  • There are no byes
  • Open spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis

The qualification will be determined by using the following equation to determine their "PA” (Points Available) percentage:

Number of points earned/Number of points available = PA percentage

Example in 8-Ball:  In every 8-ball match, a player has 3 points available to win.  If a player played 10 matches, they had 30 points available to win.  If they won a total of 13 points in those 10 matches then the calculation is:
13/30 = 0.43 or 43%.  This means that player won 43% of the points available (PA) to them during the session.

Example in 9-Ball:  In every 9-ball match, a player has 20 points available to win.  If a player played 10 matches, they had 200 points available to win.  If they won a total of 162 points in those 10 matches then the calculation is:
162/200 = .81 or 81%.  This means that the player won 81% of the points available (PA) to them during the session.
